Horse tattoos are one of the more common tattoo types, partly due to the affection that many people have for horses (teenage girls in particular) and partly due to the qualities that are associated with horses.

In particular, horses are considered to represent strength, freedom, loyalty, sexual virility and good luck.

Common formats for horse tattoos include head only, full body, outline and abstract. The recent increased interest in things celtic has also resulted in celtic style designs, a variety of which can be found online for horses.

Somewhat less common is to see multiple horses (such as mother and foal). One can also find designs that include famous people, including religious icons such as Saint George slaying a dragon while mounted.

The choice of design depends on personal preference and the message that one wants to communicate. For example, men tend to choose stallions due to the associations of strength and sexual virility, while girls and women tend to choose more feminine topics such as foals.

Aside from the choice of subject and design, there are the normal considerations to take into account, in particular safety.

It is best to use a professional and registered artist, working out of a proper studio, as they are more likely to be trained in how to prevent disease transmission (by needles and associated items) and will have the necessary equipment (such as an autoclave) to property sterilize equipment.

One also needs to take care of the tattoo until the skin has healed in order to prevent infection. In the event of a rash or itching, one should see a doctor to make sure that there are no problems, such as allergic reactions to the ink or possible infection.

Cleaning the Piercing

A new piercing should be cleaned one to two times per day during the entire healing period; however, do not over-clean the piercing. Cleaning more than two times per day, unless directed by a professional piercer, can irritate the piercing and increase the time it takes the piercing to heal.

Wash your hands thoroughly with antimicrobial or antibacterial soap before touching the new piercing at any time, especially when cleaning. Allow warm water to bathe the piercing to loosen the discharge that has crusted around the jewelry. Using antimicrobial, germicidal or antibacterial fragrance and color-free soap, form a lather around the piercing. Slide the metal through the piercing, making sure the soap reaches inside the wound. Afterwards, rinse well, continuing to slide the jewelry. This process removes dirt and bacteria from the piercing which may cause infection.

Salt Water Baths

Sea salt water baths are preferred for oral, facial and body piercings. Infinite Body Piercing recommends ¼ teaspoon in a regular sized cup or a pinch of sea salt in a shot glass. Tilt the glass against the skin around the piercing so your body forms a seal. Let the water sit around the period for a few minutes, soaking into the wound. Sea salt baths are also very calming to sore piercings, particularly genital piercings.

Oral Piercings

It may not be the best idea to swish your mouth out with soap to clean a tongue piercing or to clean the inside of your new labret piercing. Instead, oral piercings can be cleaned with an antibacterial mouthwash that does not contain alcohol. If you have just received a new oral piercing you may also swish with warm salt water. Oral piercings must be cleaned every time you eat, drink, smoke, kiss or give oral sex.

The Association of Professional Piercers says it is vital to replace the original jewelry used in oral piercings because the piercing jewelry is longer than the standard jewelry. Failure to replace the jewelry can lead to expensive oral problems such as chipped teeth. The jewelry can be replaced once the swelling goes down and should be replaced by a professional piercer because it will still be during the healing process.

Don’ts of Piercing Aftercare and What to Avoid

When cleaning your piercing do not using rubbing alcohol. The substance is too harsh for a new piercing, will delay healing and dry out the skin around the piercing. Hydrogen peroxide and antibiotic ointments are two other first aid kit necessities to stay away from.

Hydrogen peroxide not only kills bacteria but will also kill the healthy cells your body is try to build to heal the piercing. Antibiotic ointments, such as Neosporin, are petroleum-jelly based, which prevents water and helpful cleaning solutions from reaching the inside of the piercing.

The blockage provides a warm, moist environment conducive to the growth of bacteria. The label also warns not to use on puncture wounds, which is precisely what oral, facial and body piercings are. Ear piercing solution should never be used on any other type of piercing. For on-the-go cleaning, try individually wrapped saline pads sold at local pharmacies.

As much as possible, avoid stress, nicotine, alcohol and caffeine, all of which will slow the healing process.

The Italian firm of Buccellati is famous for textural gold jewelry and exquisite silver objects. The main design accomplishments of the Buccellati firm span four decades: from the 1920’s to the 1960’s. The pieces are bold and instantly recognizable, with a style that references the great goldsmiths of the Renaissance. The most distinctive aspect of Buccellati pieces is the rich textural quality, Mario Buccellati was the first to introduce the technique of texture-engraving. The most renowned engraving techniques are rigato (parallel lines cut onto the surface of metal to obtain a sheen effect), telato (texture, obtained by fine cross-hatched lines, which imitates linen surface), segrinato (engraving in every possible directions, overlapping textures), ornato (decoration, based on nature forms: animals, leaves, flowers), modellato (the most delicate engraving technique, which consists of reproducing several designs chiseled in three dimensions on a minuscule scale, mainly used for the decorations of the borders). Pieces are created to look and feel like silk, damask, tulle, lace, or linen. Use of mixed metals (silver and gold, platinum and gold) is also typical. If gemstones are used at all, they are often unusual: large cabochons, carved emeralds and rubies, rose-cut diamonds.
According to family history, the Buccellati's first foray into the jewelry trade was in the mid-eighteenth century when Contardo Buccellati worked as a goldsmith in Milan. In 1903, Mario Buccellati revived the family tradition, apprenticing at Milan’s prestigious Beltrami & Beltrami at the age of twelve. In 1919, Buccellati took over the firm, changing its name to Buccellati. International acclaim quickly followed. While exhibiting at Madrid’s 1920 Exposition, Mario Buccellati caught the public’s attention when he hurled an expensive compact out a window when a woman asked for a discount, shouting, “I am not a tradesman!” The next day, hundreds turned up to look at his booth, curious to see the unknown jeweler’s pieces. Everything sold. Buccellati was then invited to exhibit his work at a solo show; Spanish aristocrats came in droves, including the royal family who became lifelong clients.
In the years that followed, Buccellati’s work gained a loyal following in Italy and abroad. Poet Gabriele D’Annunzio dubbed him “The Prince of Goldsmiths” and ordered pieces by the hundreds. As his five sons came of age, all but one entered the business: Frederico, Gianmaria, Luca, and Lorenzo. New stores were opened in Rome (1925) and Florence (1929). In 1951, Buccellati became first Italian jewelry designer with a location on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
In 1967, when Mario Buccellati died, the brothers split the business. The Buccellati tradition of precision and quality continues today. As Gianmaria Buccellati explained “The Buccellati concept focuses on beauty, art, class and the traditions of the past... Our jewels are entirely hand-made, with love, patience, and time by the best craftsmen in Italy... Our philosophy has never changed and never will; it represents the essence of our work.” Lorenzo and Frederico looked after the flagship stores in Italy. Luca and Gianmaria assumed control of stores in the United States, rapidly expanding to other locations in Hong Kong, (1970), Japan (1972), Monte Carlo (1976), and Paris (1979). The third generation has now assumed control of the firm and has continued to expand its international presence.

This technique is used especially by individuals who find other techniques are not feasible for whatever reasons. Much thought should be put into getting a tattoo as it's a mark for life. The design ought to be something that will not be outgrown or outdated. Regardless of how much thought is really place into it, generally the tattoo ends up requiring a cover up.

Cover ups are done for several reasons. Probably the most common reasons is to present the tattoo a recent, new look. Tattoos which have paled over some time might be touched up to get it to look as if it is brand new. Newly applied crisp lines can cleaned up any blurring across the edges. Further color might be applied on to brighten up the design.

Occasionally, the old tattoo requires to be brightened up resulting from fading which could be achieved by adding more colour and design aspects. A black tattoo will be brightened up by including extra detail as a background in color. Many colours will be applied over the previous black ink with a pleasant impact as well.

Tattoo cover ups are often executed when the previous design is no longer correct for the customer. As an example, a girl might have a tattoo utilized sporting the title of her boyfriend. Years later, the relationship no longer exists however the tattoo stays for life. Cover ups can fully change the look of the tattoo making components of it which are now not desirable seem to have disappeared.

Tattoo cover ups are needed when the old tattoo is of inferior quality. Prison tattoos are frequently used for cover ups. Tattoos that have been done by amateurs are also typically covered up. These outdated tattoos are often small or executed with thin lines which might be readily covered. Even when there is not an earlier tattoo, a cover up remains to be needed sometimes.

These are the circumstances when scars are to be covered with art. Tens of millions have tattoos utilized to cover scars that they no longer want to see or really feel they are not very pleasing to look at. Except when the scars are big and have triggered in depth injury to the pores and skin, typically a cover up could be done. Even on very large scars, many good tattoo artists can still design something to work with.

When a tattoo cover up is required, it is most vital to search for a superb and talented tattoo artist. A tattoo artist who can design an amazing image for the original tattoo is good. A tattoo artist who can design a tattoo to cover up an existing tattoo with a new and totally different design is the type of gifted artist you want for a great cover up.

Most tattoo artists don't have samples of cover ups they have carried out on display. To see these you'll often have to ask specifically for them. Pay close consideration to the element of the cover ups and evaluate the previous tattoo with the new.

A large stable tattoo shouldn't be utilized over a smaller tattoo as the outdated one will simply show through. Although tattoos are everlasting, they can be covered up and touched up. Touch ups have been reported as being a slight bit extra painful and sometimes repeat visits are needed to completely complete the design. The option is there, however and if an excellent artist is identified, the outcome needs to be stunning.
